Chapter 6 - Dae'angel

And so begins Chapter 6 of Tainted.

And I must agree with Elias there: Gen does have a good set of lungs.

I feel bad for poor Aimee. She is very timid. She does not look near upset enough, though. It's hard to make her look upset, though. Her eyes are hard to add expressions to since they have no pupils. Aimee is a fairly new character. She showed up in the last few pages of chapter 5 with the healers. She's actually only an assistant healer and works in many different areas. I don't think she will ever be more than an assistant due to the fact that she is almost completely blind. Poor girl is one of the very few daemon/tainted hybrids that will show up in the series. Hybrids tend to come with a lot of issues.

Shiro, on the other hand, looks just right. He's both nervous and scared. His last experience with Gen didn't go well and she is going to be noticeably upset when he encounters her again. I don't blame him for being worried. I would probably be quite concerned about my future well being too. Gen is on the list of those I would not want to upset.

Overall, I rather like this cover. It's simple but gets exactly what I wanted across.

Next week: Gen is on the loose.

Sorry for the delay in getting these done. It's been a very busy election week. I'm so glad it's over, even if I'm not entirely satisfied with all of the outcomes. That's a whole other conversation, though. I'll stick with Tainted here.

11/01 update:
Presenting the first page of the chapter. Yes, Gen is loose in the house. Yes, most are afraid of her. No, Elise, is not. Elise is the guy with Shiro. They're friends, though I am not always sure why.

What I really like about this page is the layout. I so rarely do not boxy, straight layouts. I always like them when I do them, so why don't I do them more often? I really should. I also really like the perspectives in this one. It really feel like it is moving to me.

The only thing I really didn't like about this page was drawing it. I hate doing the inside of the house. I have the whole layout sketched, and I really should post that up some time, but I hate drawing it. Even when I know where they are, I don't like drawing the house. At least it's not one of the rooms. The rooms are the worst since each room has very detailed tapestries and furniture. Each room has a theme, you see, so all of the furniture is different. Shiro, for example, is in one of the bird rooms. His is the sleeping pheasant, so his tapestries relate to sleep and night. Allura is in the founders room, with all of her furniture and tapestries showing how the Dae'angel came to live where they are. Gen was put in one of the spring rooms, so all of her things center around spring and rebirth. This will all be explained in the comic, of course, but not for a little while.

11/08 update:
So, the last time we saw Gen in her fox form, a number of people said she was a very hot vixen. With a small attitude adjustment, she would be a very lovely vixen. With that in mind, I decided Elise needed to comment about her looks. Elise is such a flirt, and don't think this will be the only time he says such a thing about her.

Todays page was a quick draw for me and I think you can see why. There are not really any backgrounds and the details are minimal. In truth, this page did not need any major backgrounds or detail. With what is going on, it worked better to have it be very simple.

Oh, and I am not going to have any more all or mostly black furred characters. They are too much of a pain to color and add white details on. Jessica has to be all black, and I knew that from the beginning. Being an all black puppy plays a big part in her back story. Gen, however, was mostly black on a whim. There was no real reason for it. Now I sort of regret having her almost all black. She has a little white on the chin and chest and tips of her tails (yes, she has two tails as well), but is otherwise all black. I am not looking forward to having to draw her in complete fox form.
